THE ENEMY carved their name as one of 2007’s finest emerging bands with the Stiff Records singles 40 Days & 40 Nights (all 1000 copies sold-out in less than a day) and It’s Not OK (all 5000 copies sold in less than a week); the band issue Away From Here on April 16th as their first full single release. A gritty blast of raw energy infused with a true pop melody, Away From Here demonstrates why The Enemy are already so highly rated.
Having spent most of 2007 on the road, The Enemy are coming back to Leeds Uni to pack out The Refectory following a blinding show in Stylus in June.
THE WOMBATS are a three piece band from Liverpool whose own brand of shimmering, high-speed punk-pop has grabbed many an ear and tapped many a toe lately. Born in the bustle of the Liverpool music scene just two years ago, they comprise front man Matthew Murphy, drummer Dan Haggis and bassist Tord Overland-Knudsen.
Having already seduced Liverpool, selling out the 1200 capacity Carling Academy (the first unsigned band to do so), The Wombats have set their sights further afield. They have recently been getting attention in more some exotic locations - from China to the United States, their music touching a universal nerve despite its peculiarly English lyrical concerns of Caravans in Wales and Sunday TV and appeared 5 times at 2007's SXSW festival.
LETHAL BIZZLE is the East London grime hero, who made it out of More Fire Crew as far as performing on stage with Pete Doherty and Kate Moss in front of a mud-drenched Glastonbury in June. Collaborating with such luminaries as Kate Nash and Babyshambles has added an extra dimension to second album Back To Bizznizz, and emerges as a significant success for the UK grime scene that has the ability to boast widespread appeal. Lethal Bizzle is hard-hitting, funny, observant and always has plenty to say.
