<title>Sleep + A Storm Of Light - 24 May 12</title>
<link>http://www.leedstickets.com/eventinfo/3318/Sleep</link>
<description>Formed as a Bay Area punk rock band called Asbestosdeath, the band changed their musical direction and name and debuted as Sleep with their &amp;quot;Volume One&amp;quot; album in 1991. After Justin Marler left the band, the core lineup of Al Cisneros, Matt Pike and Chris Hakius went into the studio to record a demo cassette that they sent to Earache Records. The recording was released in November 1992 (exactly as received by the label) under the name &amp;quot;Sleep's Holy Mountain&amp;quot; and went on to forever alter the musical landscape. Countless current bands cite &amp;quot;...Holy Mountain&amp;quot; as a major inspiration, and the unique sound and style of the record can be heard in many subsequent releases by bands from all over the world.
&amp;quot;Sleep's Holy Mountain&amp;quot; created such a buzz that major label London Records signed the band. Unfortunately, the label lacked the vision necessary to actually follow through and release the album that Sleep recorded, mostly because it took the not-radio-friendly form of a Single song -- a 63 minute long ode to weed -- called &amp;quot;Dopesmoker.&amp;quot; Sleep returned to the studio and edited the track down to 52 minutes and retitled it &amp;quot;Jerusalem&amp;quot;, but it was again rejected. London Records shelved the record and dropped the band, leading to their dissolution.
Luckily, the record had a life after death and refused to stay buried. It first saw the light of day as the shortened &amp;quot;Jerusalem&amp;quot; version by The Music Cartel in 1998 before &amp;quot;Dopesmoker&amp;quot; (at its full 63 minute length) was given a proper release by Tee Pee Records in 2003. &amp;quot;Dopesmoker&amp;quot; stands as one of the towering achievements in recent metal history, a mesmerizing, intoxicating, and incredibly complex song that is still unrivaled in the annals of stoner metal.

The band's breakup, while devastating for fans, turned out to have a silver lining as Matt Pike went on to form High On Fire, a metal juggernaut that has authored five albums to date, and Al Cisneros went on to form OM who have released four albums to date.
SLEEP features Al Cisneros (bass / vocals), Matt Pike (guitar) and Jason Roeder (drums).

<title>Slam Dunk Festival North ***SOLD OUT*** - 26 May 12</title>
<link>http://www.leedstickets.com/eventinfo/3274/Slam-Dunk-North</link>
<description>The 7th annual Slam Dunk Festival will be held over the last weekend of May (26th/ 27th May). The northern date will be held at our much loved home of 6 years, Leeds University, and the southern date will again be at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield.
Last year&amp;rsquo;s tenth anniversary celebrations of the Slam Dunk brand proved to be the best and most successful SDF to date, and we hope to emulate that success this year. We have once again strived to provide and eclectic mix of genres from bands from home-soil and those from overseas. We think there is something for everyone in this year&amp;rsquo;s line-up and are so excited to host these bands. So without further ado, here is the first 10 bands playing SDF12:
Headlining this year&amp;rsquo;s event is the mighty, the one-and-only, TAKING BACK SUNDAY. TBS have been the placeholders for modern-day Emo for an impressive 10 years now, and having recently reverted back to their original line-up the band are sounding better than ever. This is TBS&amp;rsquo;s only Uk festival appearance of 2012 so be sure not to miss out.
Joining them this year and broadening the line-up are UK metal heroes ARCHITECTS and the voice of today&amp;rsquo;s disenfranchised youth, ska/punk/reggae outfit THE KING BLUES.
We also have exclusive UK performances from one of the best looking European tours of 2012, from EVERY TIME I DIE, CANCER BATS, SET YOUR GOALS and MAKE DO AND MEND.
Rounding out this initial announcement are Amercian power-pop and proven Slam Dunk favourites MAYDAY PARADE, FOREVER THE SICKEST KIDS and the long-awaited return of THE AUDITION!

<title>Half Man Half Biscuit - 7 Jun 12</title>
<link>http://www.leedstickets.com/eventinfo/3273/Half-Man-Half-Biscuit</link>
<description>A truly genuine band, blessed with a magical capacity to make the most jaded of listeners fall back in love with music again. Witty and dry, sardonic yet never cynical, melodically infectious yet edgy sing along songs, these four lads who shook the Wirral are perhaps still to some extent an undiscovered national treasure.
Back in 1985, Half Man Half Biscuit sat comfortably at the top of the indie album chart.
This may not seem so much of an achievement, unless you take a look back at the other contenders in the chart at that time.
Acts such as Depeche Mode, New Order and The Cult were all on the scene.
And you could guarantee that none of them managed to hit the number one spot with an album that had been recorded in just a couple of days and for around &amp;pound;30.
That album was Back In The DHSS, it became an instant success after it was championed by the late John Peel, for whom they did a total of 12 sessions over the years.
As soon as he heard the white label test pressing, he was smitten.
In his words, &amp;ldquo;It came at a time when music in general was starting to get a little bit po-faced&amp;rdquo;.
With tracks such as 'I Hate Nerys Hughes' and 'I Love You Because (You Look Like Jim Reeves)', HMHB could never be considered as po-faced. Even though this was their debut recording, it went on to sell over 200,000 copies.
Since then, they have released a further 10 albums with Nigel Blackwell never taking the music business too seriously.
According to Nigel, the reason he started writing songs, was due to the fact, that when he left school in Birkenhead, the only other option was to become a heroin addict.
With lyrics such as, &amp;ldquo;She&amp;rsquo;s the main man in the office in the city and she treats me like I&amp;rsquo;m just another lackey. But I can put a tennis racket up against my face and pretend that I am Kendo Nagasaki,&amp;rdquo; nobody could dispute he chose the correct career path.
Their latest album CSI: Ambleside, sees more of Nigel&amp;rsquo;s surreal observations on everyday life.
A few shining examples are 'Bad Losers On Yahoo Chess' and 'Took Problem Chimp To Ideal Home Show'.
So grab your Joy Division Oven Gloves and don your Dukla Prague away kit, as The Biscuit are coming to town.... and on a Christmas Saturday night too !

Introducing Hideout Festival 2012
Hideout Festival Croatia made its spectacular debut this summer &amp;ndash; a beachside event in a stunning and unique location.
The first-time event was a complete sell-out and made an outstanding entrance onto the summer festival scene. Reviews from attendees, artists and clubbing partners were phenomenal and within days of Hideout 2011 having ended, talk of Hideout 2012 begun.
The wheels are currently being put in motion to bring you an exceptional Hideout 2012 and it is already set to be even more phenomenal than the last.
Bigger
Due to extreme popularity and demand, capacity is being increased for next year&amp;rsquo;s event, so even more of you will be able to have the Hideout experience. A fourth venue has been added &amp;ndash; in addition to Papaya, Aquarius 1 and Aquarius 2, which proved to be hugely successful venues last year, they&amp;rsquo;re now adding Kalypso into the mix.
Kalypso is Zcre beaches most infamous night club, right next to the sea and surrounded by palm trees, this exotic venue is going to add a brand new, exciting dimension to Hideout 2012!

To accommodate the extra capacity, as well as securing even more apartments in the town of Novaljia and surrounding areas &amp;ndash; just down the road from the action and right near all the bars, pubs, restaurants and all-important beach &amp;ndash; Hideout Festival will this time around offer the option to camp right next to the beach, with a stunning mountain back drop to the camp site.
Better
Some of your favourite DJ&amp;rsquo;s from last year will be returning &amp;ndash; including Annie Mac, Andy C, Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler who will both be playing back to back on the main stage &amp;ndash; whilst some new huge acts will also be introduced. Absolute legends such as Ricardo Villalobos, Four Tet &amp;amp; Caribou, Claude Von Stroke, Skrillex, Skream and Brodinski are going to be joining the line-up next year, ensuring an even more outstanding programme than before.

Clubbing partners Mono Cult, Jaunt, Drop the Mustard, Urban Nerds, Sonido and Just Jack, who were hugely popular last year, will be back plus some all-new affiliations will be involved including Mulletover and Birmingham&amp;rsquo;s Face.

2012 will be also bringing you an even bigger programme&amp;hellip;
Hideout Festival 2012 will take place across the four venues, from Friday 29th June to Sunday 1st July and will this time be hosting an entire week of events, from Tuesday 26th June right up until to the early hours of Monday 2nd July!
Hideout 2012
Not for the faint-hearted, Hideout 2012 will once again combine the stamina of a beach holiday with the intense euphoria of the most turbo charged electronic festival!

Keep up to date with all our news, announcements and updates via our Twitter and Facebook pages.
Boat party and extra event info will be released early 2012.

<title>Ghostfest 2012 WEEKEND TICKET - 30 Jun 12</title>
<link>http://www.leedstickets.com/eventinfo/3234/Ghostfest-Weekend</link>
<description>Ghostfest 2012 is ready to once again take over Leeds University on the 30 June / 1 July with its biggest capacity and strongest line up yet.
Ghostfest, the UK&amp;rsquo;s fastest growing independent metal and hardcore festival, is back and promises to top last year&amp;rsquo;s sold-out event with over 40 bands, three stages, even bigger names and an increased capacity to 2700. Taking place on the 30 June / 1 July at Leeds University Students Union, the first headliners of many big-hitting names have been announced:
&amp;nbsp;
Frankie Palmeri of Emmure says:
&amp;quot;We&amp;rsquo;re really excited to be a part of GHOSTFEST this year, see ya in the pit&amp;quot;

All Shall Perish say:
&amp;ldquo;Given we couldn&amp;rsquo;t make last years&amp;rsquo; Ghostfest we&amp;rsquo;re really excited to be coming over to play the festival this year and the line-up looks incredible. Look forward to seeing you all there.&amp;rdquo;
They&amp;rsquo;re joined by Boston punks Defeater, tech-metal wizards The Haarp Machine, Ghost Music signings Silent Screams, melodic hardcore outfit Departures, noise-core mob Polar and fast rising Welsh boys Continents.

An excited Toyan St.Hilaire, Ghostfest&amp;rsquo;s director, comments:

&amp;ldquo;I can&amp;rsquo;t tell you how much I&amp;rsquo;m looking forward to this year&amp;rsquo;s Ghostfest! As well as having the biggest names and most international acts the festival has ever seen, the addition of a third stage has allowed room for even more amazing underground acts so there will always be something for everyone at any one time. When I started Ghostfest back in 2005, I set out to create the UK&amp;rsquo;s best metal and hardcore festival possible, and with this year&amp;rsquo;s lineup, Ghostfest 2012 is realising that ambition. Bring on June 30th!&amp;rdquo;

Ghostfest is proud to announce that Impericon, Monster and Time Will Tell will each be sponsoring a stage, and as usual Monster will be giving out free energy drinks! Leading music title Rock Sound magazine has also come onboard as media partner.

Summer Saturnalia is three-day celebration of music and art set in the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside. Not for profit, fiercely independent and only three years young - we&amp;rsquo;re the freshest festival around.
We have a unique vibe that you just don&amp;rsquo;t find at commercial festivals. Saturnalia is an experience like nothing else. This year's event is bigger than ever and not to blow our own trumpet but even we are amazed at what's being put together.
What to expect?
Four stages of the best music and art from around the world:
Titan - our outdoor stage. Showcasing the best live music throughout the afternoons and evenings, then big club sounds into the small hours.
Pandora - our soulful electronic music stage. From chilled summer vibes to deep electronica and everything inbetween.
The Black Hole - the finest bass music. All flavours, all eras. Savagely reinforced by the MOB Sound System.
Opalia - a new addition for 2012. Featuring a veritable smorgasbord of dance, theatre, comedy and lots more, with a serving of acoustic music on the side.
Also expect pop-up performances, live art, fancy dress and plenty more surprises...
Our own fully-licensed bar will be serving your favourite cold beverages at pub prices. Summer Saturnalia isn&amp;rsquo;t about telling you what you can&amp;rsquo;t do and we&amp;rsquo;re happy for you to bring your own if you&amp;rsquo;d like. We're on hand when you want a cold one with ice &amp;amp; slice - all bar takings go straight back into the festival.
To keep you partying throughout the weekend, our friends from Leed's best new cafe/bar/art-space &amp;lsquo;Full Circle&amp;rsquo; will be serving reasonably-priced, locally-sourced and properly-cooked food. Veggies, vegans, carnivores and cake-lovers are all catered for.
Full-priced tickets are &amp;pound;60 - this is for all three days, camping and parking. How? We've developed a loyal following from our past two events - friends tell friends about Summer Saturnalia - so we don't have to rinse your money on marketing. We have great relationships with suppliers that believe in the festival and what it stands for. And finally, we don't do this for the money - we do it for the amazing vibe that is Summer Saturnalia. We love the UK festival scene, but we really believe this is something extra special.
Don't take our word for it - ask around about Summer Saturnalia. Check out our website, tell your friends and we'll see you all very soon...

<title>Beacons Festival: WILD BEASTS, ROOTS MANUVA, JUNIOR BOYS, GHOSTPOET + MORE - 17 Aug 12</title>
<link>http://www.leedstickets.com/eventinfo/3281/Beacons-Festival</link>
<description>17th - 19th August 2012
ROOTS MANUVA / JUNIOR BOYS / GHOSTPOET / ERRORS / FACTORY FLOOR / CASS MCCOMBS / PEAKING LIGHTS / STAR SLINGER /  WILLY MASON / SUBMOTION ORCHESTRA / BOK BOK / 2:54 / JAM CITY / KING KRULE / MAZES / STILL CORNERS / STAY+ / GROSS MAGIC / D/R/U/G/S / BOS ANGELES / GRASS HOUSE
Greetings from Beacons. The cutting-edge music and arts festival will be taking place in a new location in the picturesque setting of the Funkirk Estate in Skipton this August. We are pleased to announce the 1st instalment of acts that will be performing this summer. A further 40+ acts will be announced in mid-March, including Saturday&amp;rsquo;s headline.
NEW SITE : A message from Beacons Festival regarding the cancellation of Beacons Festival 2011:
&amp;ldquo;Last year, due to extreme flooding, Health and Safety Executives made the decision to cancel Beacons Festival. We were devastated to have to cancel your party but were left with no choice. This year, we have moved the site away from any potential flood areas, still in the fantastic setting of Carleton.  The new location is even more picturesque than the previous site and we feel it can only enhance people&amp;rsquo;s experience of what will be a truly amazing festival.&amp;rdquo;
Beacons Festival is set in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside; an affordable festival brought to you by a collective of tastemakers who, for years, have been bringing the best music to reputable Northern venues such as Leeds&amp;rsquo; Nation of Shopkeepers and Brudenell Social Club, Sheffield&amp;rsquo;s Bungalows and Bears, Club Pony and the Shipping Forecast. We&amp;rsquo;ve also got the organisers of London-based festivals and events like Underage and Field Day and the Shacklewell Arms venue on board. This year, the main stage acts are presented in association with The Stool Pigeon magazine. The people behind Manchester&amp;rsquo;s coolest band nights, Now Wave are on board, as are London&amp;rsquo;s Eat Your Own Ears. Beacons will be bringing together the cream of the cities finest club nights and gig venues for one weekend in Yorkshire.
Beacons is a three-day, four-night festival and for a short period, tickets are available at just &amp;pound;60 for the weekend, including camping (&amp;pound;55 for students).
A limited number of early bird weekend tickets will be available from 9am Wednesday 15th February. Tickets will be available to purchase from the Beacons Festival website, HMV, Seetickets, Gigantic, Leedstickets.com, Jumbo Records and Crash Records.
We&amp;rsquo;re thrilled to welcome Rodney Smith aka Roots Manuva to Beacons this year. Following the release of last year&amp;rsquo;s 4everrevolution - his most powerful work since Run Come Save Me &amp;ndash; the UK hip-hop legend will be bringing his innovative sound to the Yorkshire countryside this summer. And one of UK hip-hop&amp;rsquo;s rising stars will also be playing. The Mercury Music Prize-nominated Ghostpoet will be laying down his laconic beats and baritone drawl and you&amp;rsquo;ll get the chance to see why Factory Floor have made a fan of Joy Division / New Order&amp;rsquo;s Stephen Morris and had the likes of Pitchfork and Quietus touting them for bigger things.
Beacons represents a side-step from the usual treadmill of festival bands and burger vans. We book the bands we love, because we know that our visitors will love them too. As we announce more artists over the coming weeks and months, we will also be revealing our exclusive cinema programme. In addition to this, there will be children&amp;rsquo;s entertainment from the Ladybird Project, spoken word, theatre and dance.

Festival director Gavin McInally added: &amp;quot;It's great to get this year off to a bang, and they don't come much noisier than Pig Destroyer.
&amp;quot;There isn't a more suitable stage to host their long awaited return to the UK than our legendary Terrorizer Stage, which they'll close in devastating fashion.
&amp;quot;As always, we'll aim to put together the most exciting and diverse bill we can possibly manage and, having not raised ticket prices since 2008, we'll keep early bird tickets at &amp;pound;29 for our loyal fanbase.&amp;quot;
